# Hypercapture files

hypershot saves captures as `.hypercapture` files — self-contained bundles that include all annotation data, images, and metadata.

## File preview

hypershot registers `.hypercapture` files with the system so they appear with thumbnails in your file manager:

- **macOS Finder** — Quick Look thumbnails show a preview of the capture directly in icon and column views.
- **Windows Explorer** — Thumbnails render in all view modes (Extra Large Icons through Details).

The thumbnail extensions are installed automatically with hypershot. On Windows there's nothing else to do; on macOS, check that the Quick Look extension is enabled in System Settings — see [Quick Look Extension](/docs/hypershot/getting-started/quicklook).

## Opening files

Double-click any `.hypercapture` file to open it in hypershot with all annotations fully editable.

## Sharing

`.hypercapture` files are standard zip archives under the hood. You can share them directly — recipients with hypershot installed can open and edit them.
