At hypernuclear, we believe your screen is your business. This Privacy Policy explains what information hypershot collects, how we use it, and how we protect it. Spoiler: it's very little.

## 1. Overview

hypershot is designed to work **entirely on your device**. Your screenshots, recordings, annotations, and other content never leave your machine unless you explicitly choose to share or export them.

## 2. Information We Collect

### 2.1 Information You Provide

- **License key** — Used to verify your purchase and activate hypershot.
- **Email address** — Required to activate and manage your license. Also used for license recovery, support requests, and optional product updates.

### 2.2 Automatically Collected Information

When you activate or use hypershot, we may collect:

- **Device information** — Operating system version and hardware model (for compatibility and debugging).
- **License validation data** — A hashed license key and activation timestamp to verify your license.

### 2.3 Usage Analytics

hypershot collects limited usage analytics so we can understand how the app is used and fix problems. Analytics is enabled by default, and you can turn it off at any time in **Settings → About** (uncheck **Help improve the app by sharing anonymous usage data**). Disabling it stops all analytics collection immediately.

When analytics is enabled, we collect:

- **Device identifier** — a stable identifier associated with your machine (see below).
- **Feature usage metrics** — Counts of features used (e.g., screenshots taken, annotation tools used, exports performed)
- **Performance data** — Application load times, render performance, and memory usage
- **Crash reports** — Error logs, stack traces, OS version, and device model when the application crashes
- **Approximate region** — Country-level location derived from your IP address. Raw IP addresses are not stored.

**About the device identifier:** the identifier is not linked to your identity while you use hypershot without a license. If you purchase a license and activate it on this machine, the device identifier may become associated with your license record, because we keep a record of which machines hold active licenses. Analytics data is not otherwise linked to your name or email address, and we do not use it for advertising or sell it to anyone.

Analytics data is processed by [Countly](https://countly.com), our analytics provider, under a data processing agreement.

### 2.4 What We Do NOT Collect

We want to be explicit about this:

- ❌ We do **not** capture, upload, or transmit your screenshots, recordings, or annotations
- ❌ We do **not** access your screen content beyond what is required for the app to function
- ❌ We do **not** collect browsing history, file contents, or personal files
- ❌ We do **not** use your data for advertising
- ❌ We do **not** sell your data to third parties

## 3. How We Use Your Information

We use the limited information we collect to:

- Verify your license and prevent piracy
- Provide customer support
- Improve hypershot through usage analytics (which you can turn off in Settings → About)
- Communicate important updates about your license or the product
- Pay our affiliate partners for the sales they send us (6.5)

## 4. Data Storage and Security

- License data is stored on secure servers.
- All your content (screenshots, recordings, annotations) is stored **locally on your device**.
- We use industry-standard encryption and security practices to protect the data we hold.

## 5. Third-Party Services

hypershot may integrate with the following third-party services:

| Service | Purpose | Data Shared |
|---------|---------|-------------|
| License validation server | Verify license keys | Hashed license key, device ID |
| Countly (usage analytics) | Understand feature usage and fix crashes | Device identifier, feature usage counts, performance data, crash logs, country-level region |

You can disable usage analytics at any time in **Settings → About** (uncheck **Help improve the app by sharing anonymous usage data**); when disabled, no analytics data is sent to Countly.

We do not share your personal information with any third party for marketing or advertising purposes.

## 6. Website Privacy

### 6.1 Cookies

Our website at hypernuclear.com does not use cookies for analytics, advertising or tracking, which is why it has no cookie banner.

- **One essential cookie.** When you sign in on the [Manage License](/license/manage) page, we set a cookie named `hs_manage` that keeps you signed in for 30 minutes. It can't be read by scripts on the page, and it's never set anywhere else on the site.
- **Your theme.** If you pick light or dark mode, that choice is saved in your browser's local storage. It stays on your device and is never sent to us.

### 6.2 Website Analytics

We use [Plausible Analytics](https://plausible.io) to understand how the website is used. Plausible uses no cookies or local storage and collects no personal data. It doesn't store IP addresses: visitors are counted with an anonymous identifier that changes every day, so it can't follow you from one day to the next or across other websites.

It records:

- Pages visited, and the site or campaign link that brought you here
- Browser, operating system and device type
- Country, region and city, worked out from your IP address, which is then discarded
- A few actions on the site: download clicks (which app and which build), clicks through to checkout (which license), newsletter sign-ups (which form), whether the home page's animation was watched to the end or skipped, and completed purchases (the license, quantity, amount and currency, and whether checkout started on the website or in the app, only)

It never records your name, email address, payment details, order number or license key. This data is aggregated and cannot identify you personally. Your browser sends this to hypernuclear.com, which passes it on to Plausible without keeping it. Plausible's servers are in the European Union. Analytics run only on hypernuclear.com.

We also use [Ahrefs Web Analytics](https://ahrefs.com/web-analytics) to see how people find the website through search. Like Plausible, it uses no cookies and collects no personal data. It counts page visits, the site that referred you, which links you click, and your browser, device and country. Your browser sends this directly to Ahrefs. It doesn't run on the pages that handle license keys or on the page you see after a purchase. See [Ahrefs' privacy policy](https://ahrefs.com/privacy-policy).

### 6.3 Newsletter

You can subscribe to our newsletter from the website, from hypershot's onboarding, or from hyperbin and hyperwave. It brings news of new free apps and hypershot updates.

- **Double opt-in.** Signing up sends one confirmation email. Until you click its link, your address isn't added to any list or stored by us. If you don't click it, nothing else happens.
- **What we keep.** Once you confirm, we keep your email address, which form you signed up from, and when you confirmed. Then we send you the newsletter.
- **Who sends it.** Our emails, and the list itself, are handled by [Resend](https://resend.com), our email provider.
- **Unsubscribing.** Every newsletter email has an unsubscribe link. One click takes you off the list. You can also write to privacy@hypernuclear.com.
- **At checkout.** When you buy a license, Stripe's checkout may offer a box for product news. We add you to the newsletter only if you tick it.

Your newsletter subscription is separate from your license and from analytics. Unsubscribing never affects your license.

### 6.4 hyperbin and hyperwave

Our free, open-source apps hyperbin and hyperwave never send what they show or hear: no audio, no file names and nothing about your Trash or Recycle Bin. They send:

- **Usage analytics**, on by default and off in the app's menu (**Share Usage Data** in hyperbin, **Send Anonymous Usage Data** in hyperwave). The data is the app's version, your operating system, which effects or looks you choose, and when the app launches. It goes to Countly with a device identifier, the same one hypershot uses on that machine (see 2.3). With analytics off, no identifier is computed and nothing is sent.
- **Update checks** to our download servers, which see your app version and operating system.
- **Your email address, only if you enter it** in the app's sign-up form. It goes to hypernuclear.com for the newsletter's double opt-in (6.3).
- **When they show our other products**, a request to hypernuclear.com for the current list and prices, carrying the app's name, version and platform. Links from the app to our website carry campaign tags naming the app, so we know the visit came from it.

### 6.5 Partner Links

Some creators share hypershot through their own link or discount code and earn a commission on the sales they send us. See our [Affiliate program terms](/legal/affiliates).

- **If you buy through one.** A partner's link adds their code to the website's address (`?ref=…`). The website doesn't store it. It puts the code on your Stripe checkout so you get the discount, and Stripe records which code your purchase used. We use that only to count the partner's sales and pay their commission. Partners see their sales totals, never your name, email address or license key. The page address, code included, is counted by our website analytics like any other link (6.2).
- **If you apply.** The [application form](/affiliates/#apply) emails us what you enter: your name, email address, where you publish, your audience size and how you'd share hypershot. We use it only to review your application and reply to you, and we delete it on request (privacy@hypernuclear.com). The website doesn't store it.
- **If you're a partner.** We keep your name, email address, your code, and your sales and commission totals. Your payout and tax details are collected by Stripe, which sends the payments, under [Stripe's privacy policy](https://stripe.com/privacy).

## 7. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

- **Access** the personal data we hold about you
- **Delete** your personal data

- **Request** a copy of your data in a portable format

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@hypernuclear.com.

## 8. Children's Privacy

hypershot is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a child, contact us and we will promptly delete it.

## 9. International Users

hypershot is available worldwide. If you are using hypershot from outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be processed on servers located in the United States. By using hypershot, you consent to this transfer.

## 10. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

- Know what personal information we collect
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Opt out of the sale of your personal information (we do not sell your data)
- Not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights
